Poverty and low incomes are clear, significant factors associated with lack of achievement. Children from low income families do not often get the same range of opportunities. Experiences outside of the home are a key factor affecting an individual's life chances. We are embarking on a new programme of internships for youngsters who are currently in the sixth form and who receive free school meals. Download our Internships for employers flyer (116KB pdf). Stage 1In addition to the two week internship, we will be offering a Work Ready Seminar that will help prepare them for this experience. The seminar will include work on their CV, presenting themselves at interview and their placement. At the end of the internship employers will be asked to give the student one-to-one feedback on their performance. Students will then update their CV and forward it to the employer, who will be asked for their comments. Stage 2Some students will take part in a second stage where employers will support a student through e-mentoring and this will be for a three month period. As a valued employer we would very much appreciate your involvement and support for this programme.
